I was involved with creating a unique digital collectible for Alex Ovechkin. For context, he passed Wayne Gretzky for most goals scored in NHL history. I was tasked with creating/animating the elements that would make this extra special.
This is also the first ever 1-of-1 mythic highlight on NHL Breakaway has been auctioned off. As part of the NHL Breakaway project, this work stands out as one of my proudest achievements, showcasing not only my technical skills in After Effects and animation design, but also my ability to translate a cultural sports moment into a lasting digital artifact.
Specifically for this project, I wore the hat of both a video editor and an motion designer. As I created the signature animation, and the rings, which in real time pulse together.
The signature gets animated in and has its own animation.
For this sequence of the animation, I did sound design and the animation for the pulsing of the rings and the explosion of the signature that happens in this frame, as well as create a custom explosion animation occuring behind the signature for this composition.
The above is an mock-up of what I was responsible for in the animation, happening in real time. From importing a signature into After Effects and implementing the color scheme of the signature, to animating the signature coming in, to creating the shattering of the signature and the explosion behind the signature that occurs.
